It was 5:30 in the morning, immediately after the havoc of typhoon “LANDO”, when members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council together with Personnel of the Pura Police Station started the clearing operation, despite the roaring storm, the continuous rain-showers and down communication line and electricity. Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) was tapped for the clearing operation and municipal employees were deployed in the soup kitchen. At around 10:00 am, all major thoroughfares in our Area of Responsibility (AOR) were cleared.
Meanwhile, free charging was offered at the Municipal Hall for the residents who experienced prolonged power interruption due to TS Lando’s devastation. Mayor Zarate and other LGU officials also distributed relief goods to heavily affected families in the severely affected barangays.

Distribution of the “Social Pension” benefit to Puranian Senior Citizens. This program has been made possible through the Department of Social Welfare and Development in coordination with the MSWDO.
“Pamilya at Pamayanang Handa, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Bansa” is the theme for this year’s National Disaster Consciousness Month. It highlights the goal of the disaster risk reduction and management advocacy of the Philippines that is: safeguarding of communities from the adverse effects of disasters to promote sustainable development.
The essence of the month-long celebration is the role of the family in promoting resilency on natural hazards and disseminate information on the steps to be undertaken to mitigate the adverse effects of such hazards.
The celebration kicked-off with the Earthquake and Fire Drill of all LGU Employees at the Municipal Hall on July 05 and concluded with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Meeting last August 07. A Disaster Caravan in all the schools operating in the Municipality was also spearheaded by the DRRMO.
As part of the unrelenting efforts of the LGU to provide basic health care services for all, the RHU Doctors and staff spearheaded a one day “BUNTIS PARTY”, a celebration of motherhood at the RHU lobby. This undertaking aims to decrease maternal morbidity and mortality by educating pregnant women about their condition, how to take care of themselves and when to seek proper guidance. This is also serves as the proper venue to honor pregnant women, who are tagged as modern heroines
The day long activity was graced by no less than our OB-Gyne LCE, Mayor Concep and visitors from DOH Region III and Provincial Health office.
PURA CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY
The Municipality of Pura joins the nation in celebrating the 117th Independence of the Philippines. The activity kicked off with the flag raising at the Municipal Hall Ground followed by an inspirational talk of Vice-Mayor Ferdinand Valdez. A ceremonial wreath lying at the Rizal Monument located at the heart of the Rizal park and ZUMBA at the Municipal Hall Grounds was partaken by the Municipal Employees. The LCE spearheaded the activity enjoined by LGU employees and the PURA-PNP.
The awarding ceremony of the Self-Employment Assistance Kaunlaran (SEA-K) in partnership with the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the DSWD was held at the Pura Training Center. Project beneficiaries are members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. The SEA-K project is a part of the Philippine Millennium Development Goals which seeks to eradicate extreme hunger and poverty.
In the name of transparency and good governance, the Municipal Government of Pura through the Executive Department headed by the LCE conducted a Barangay Consultative Meeting. The consultation required the 16 barangays to assemble their constituents from all walks of life to be able to listen to the milestones of the Municipal Government in terms of governance. The basic services that can be availed by the citizens were also presented during the assembly so that they will be able to know what is in store for them. In turn, the LGU officials took note as the people aired their sentiments and aspirations to the Local Government.
This activity is a way of showing that the Local Government Unit of Pura cares about and values the voice of the people at the grassroots level and that the LGU truly lives by the ideals of “Good Local Governance”.
Participants listened attentively and participated actively in the Specialized Pest Management Systems (SPMS) Seminar for Region III Farmers initiated by the Department of Agriculture Regional Crop Protection Center.
