“Pamilya at Pamayanang Handa, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Bansa is the theme for this year’s National Disaster Consciousness Month. It highlights the goal of the disaster risk reduction and management advocacy of the Philippines that is: safeguarding of communities from the adverse effects of disasters to promote sustainable development.

The essence of the month-long celebration is the role of the family in promoting resilency on natural hazards and disseminate information on the steps to be undertaken to mitigate the adverse effects of such hazards.

The celebration kicked-off with the Earthquake and Fire Drill of all LGU Employees at the Municipal Hall on July 05 and concluded with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Meeting last August 07. A Disaster Caravan in all the schools operating in the Municipality was also spearheaded by the DRRMO.

In the name of transparency and good governance, the Municipal Government of Pura through the Executive Department headed by the LCE conducted a Barangay Consultative Meeting. The consultation required the 16 barangays to assemble their constituents from all walks of life to be able to listen to the milestones of the Municipal Government in terms of governance. The basic services that can be availed by the citizens were also presented during the assembly so that they will be able to know what is in store for them.  In turn, the LGU officials took note as the people aired their sentiments and aspirations to the Local Government.

This activity is a way of showing that the Local Government Unit of Pura cares about and values the voice of the people at the grassroots level and that the LGU truly lives by the ideals of “Good Local Governance”.
